Turn signals quit, 88 F-150

Title says it all, the turn signals just up and quit. Hazard flashers still work as do tail lights and brake lights.

The fuse is not blown, but the connectors in the block are loose and seemed to have pushed out. I tried pushing the contacts back in, but that didn't help any. The fuse block is in pretty sorry shape, and a new one is in the works but in the meantime I need to get some blinkers working.

I looked on the back of the fuse block and saw a purple wire coming out of the slot right behind the fuse, this wire went over to the flasher I assume. There was only one wire coming out of the back of the fuse, should there have been two or not? The contact with no wire connected seemed to be attached to another slot on the block with a large brown wire.

I know all of this is kind of vague, and I apologize. I more or less need to know where the electricity for the blinkers comes from, and where it goes to. Is it supplied from a source in the fuse block or does it come into the block on it's own wire?

Look for the turn signal flasher, bet that's your problem.

You can try this trick. Take the flasher out of the fuse box, and take some pliers and twist the prongs on the flasher slighty, and then push it back in. That might take up some slack in the socket.

Your flasher could be bad also. On my 89, the hazard flasher is located right above the passenger side kick panel area beside the glove box. You can swap that in and see if it's the problem.

The power goes through the flasher, and then leaves and goes up to the turnsignal switch. The flasher uses the same wiring and bulbs as the brake lights, so the turnsignal switch co-ordinates if these lights are on the brake circuit, or on the turnsignal circuit.

Thanks for the tips and tricks guys. In the end it turned out to be no power coming in to the blinkers. It seems that the power in comes from an energized bar in the fuse block itself. That area of the block is pretty well fubar, not allowing any energy in. Pulled a temporary jumper with an inline fuse from a slot not in use, now it has blinkers again!

A new fuse block from Painless should solve these issues.

They don't sell a direct fit fuse box do they? If that fuse box is going to be a retro-fit universal, write back in after you do it and let us know how bad it was, and how it fit. I have a feeling this is going to be a big job.

No, there is no direct replacement that I can find other than eBay. I plan on using one from painless wiring. While it is a universal, the circuits are already labeled and the wiring is very minimal on the truck. Most everything is manually operated with the exception of windows and locks. I don't foresee it being much of a problem, but I will indeed post my experience.
