Talking New member - 92 Flareside 4x4

Hello everyone, new member here that just picked up a flareside last week. I've been looking for a truck for about a year to use for work, suitable for family, 4x4, and restore/build eventually as a father/son project for my 7 week old son. Had to be extended cab (owned quad and regular already) and a shortbed with dual tanks.

I'm not new to FOMOCO cars or trucks at all, i've owned alot. My daily driver is a 97 Lincoln Mark VIII LSC (with a laundry list of mods) that will now be getting parked again, this time for good... so i can continue the upgrades on that and keep the mileage down.

I spent the last year looking for a truck that I'm going to keep..i've owned over 40 vehicles so i know what I want, and what i dont...and having almost all the options I wanted, I instantly knew this one is staying with me.

So here it is -

1992 Ford F150 Flareside 4x4
136k Miles
302 V8 Auto Trans
A/C, Cruise, Power windows/locks
Rear bench seat, sliding glass window
Hitch, lifted 2" (says the guy)
35" BFG M/T's on 15" centerline wheels
Dual Tanks
Push button 4x4
Manual Locking Hubs

It's a good start, i'd like a larger motor eventually, straight axle, 8 lug rears, locked with steeper gears, 5 speed, more lift, rock sliders, etc...since i'm use to most of that in a truck..but this is perfect to pull a small trailer and throw some stuff in the back, while using it as an everyday vehicle for the next few years, then It can get restored when my son is old enough to help, if he wants.

There is some rust on the extended cab and needs some other things. Going to do wheel bearings, replace all fluids, brake master cylinder, valve cover gaskets, etc. There is a little chatter on startup, so ill check that out. Door panels are loose, a/c needs charged, running board tubes are rotted out, power locks dont work, mainly small stuff, it runs and drives 4x4 works, so even if it needs an engine (knock on wood) it was everything I was looking for. The guy used it as a hunting vehicle the last 4 years and its been sitting for about a year..but for a 20 year old vehicle that runs and drives, i'm not complaining. I scored it for $1000 cash

Look foward to talking with you guys, i've included some pictures. The first two were when I got it, 3rd was after a wash, and the last one is my Lincoln from this weekend in Atlantic City, NJ.

Take care.

Thanks

I also didnt like the small bed for that reason, but I do like that it isnt rusted (lol jersey kills em) and I have access to a f250, diesel f350 (both quad cab longbeds 4x4) a brand new dumptruck, and a utility trailer at work.

I will use this to work too, but the bed and a small trailer should suit me just fine, for now.

Looks great, those are some big tires for a 302. You'll find alot of lost power if you regear the truck.

When I read this:

I thought "you bought the wrong truck" and that you should have tracked down a SC SB F250.

Then I read this:
I scored it for $1000 cash
Ya done good.

love your truck, minus the camper shell!! I have thought about selling my 95 extended cab flareside and buying a regular bed truck, but it has grown on me,so I guess it can stay around for awhile. Why didn't anyone make a regular camper shell for the flareside? I would buy it in a heartbeat, perfect place to crash for a couple hours during my all night fishing trips!!

First thing I did when I got my truck was sell the camper shell that was on the back. Not that I didnt like the look of it, more the fact that It created a HUGE blindspot...

for sure, i had 5:13's in my yota and have 4:10's in my daily driven mark viii

I may grab some 31 or 33" tires as I dont plan to regear this truck anytime soon.

Thanks, I was looking for f250's or f350's but all of the ones I found were expensive or beaten and worked hard. This will suit me for awhile as parts are cheaper (brakes, suspension, etc) and will be good for work. So when I found this for 1500 obo and they guy said 1000 in the first email, come get it. I had to have it.
