Power steering in my 66

Converting my 66 f100 to power steering and would like to know if i can use a saginaw pump (canned ham lookin pump) from a 77 van with a bendix power gearbox? I have the read all the comments about the bendix gearbox but it's what i have for now. I have the pump and all the required brackets to mount it just need to know are the 2 compatable?

ND will know better, but I don't think they are compatible.

Why not? You need a pressure and a return line. It's just a simple hydraulic system.

I was the easiest person to get along, pleasant as pie. Then I joined FTE and encountered you!

The thing is, FoMoCo never offered the "canned ham" Saginaw pump with FE engines, so what will the OP do for brackets?

'Course the OP didn't say what size the engine is (typical here on FTE, peeps must think we're mind readers), so if it's a 240/300, get the brackets from an Econoline 300 I-6.

What in the world? No such thing as a Bendix P/S gearbox in any Econoline. It's Ford integral P/S.

Uses the same two gearbox seal kits (input and sector shaft) as 1965 Galaxie/LTD, 2002 Crown Vic and a gazillion other FoMoCo vehicles in between.

Ask gee willikers what type of P/S system he swapped into his '66 F100.

Bendix integral P/S: 1966/68 F100/250 2WD / 1969 F100/250 2WD before serial number D96,001.

1975/78 LTD's with 400's and Hydro-Boost P/S used the Saginaw pump.

1965/77 Passenger Cars, 1966/77 F100/250's, 1969/77 F350's used a P/S pump w/a steel reservoir.

What brackets are you going to use to mount the Saginaw P/S pump to the 351C engine?

The only brackets that would be compatible would be from 1975/78 LTD 400's with Hydro-Boost.

Oh!, The things posters reveal after further questioning.

NOTHING FROM A 66 F100.

Well u got me there, the disc brake set up is also fom a mid "70"s van and i have recently added a set of "65" mustang bucket seats ( thanks Bill W for the great mounts just got them back from the powder coater) but if it makes u feel better the frame, bumpers, grill, fenders, hood, doors, cab, box, tailgate, rear end,all the glass, headlight, blinker and tail light trim, door handles, switches and interior trim is the same parts it rolled out of Detroit with and in excellent condition. A vehicle i have owned and been proud of since 1987. Long before trucks were ever considered more then something to haul junk in and a truck i say with confidence many members of this forum would be proud to have in thier garage regardless of the engine or power steering pump i chose to use. I asked a simple question in a place i thought i would get a yes they will work together or a no you need to use this pump, not a response belittling an engine choice i made or other modifications i may decide to make. Some of us who come to this forum and ask questions do so because we are seeking answers from people who know what does and does not work for what we are trying to achieve, in my case that would be power steering in my truck on a very limited budget (shelter and food before toys) So i humbly ask again will this combination of Bendix power gear box and Saginaw (canned ham) pump be compatible, the gearbox is a pre "69" from a 2wd truck, the brackets are aftermarket brackets from a company in Viking teritory and the pump from a "77" van all of it given to me by a friends uncle who said he thought the combination would work but to check first so here i am checking. Anybody got a yes or no. I know the box will work it's the pump i am unsure of , if it's a no what pump should i use? Thanks

The pump will work fine, there's no reason why it wouldn't.
