Explorer overhead console install

I went out to the pick and pull this morning and picked up an over head console and the temp sensor from a 98 Explorer. i am putting this in my 92 F250. Does any one have a wiring diagram or know which wires go to what to install this. Also if the display has a digital compass, was this operated by the computer somehow ir is there a compass built into the console.

Thanks in advance

Going on what I've read on here solely...

Everything is standalone, except the power wires, which will obviously need to be spliced off the truck harness somewhere.

This sounds like an awesome mod. Please post pix/info when you're done! I've been throwing this idea around in my head for years but have never gotten to it...maybe this will motivate me.

I'm dying for one...

Slowly, my truck is turning into the cockpit of an F-117 Fighter...

I did find the wiring diagram on another site.
Here it is
Red/blue-dasboard dimmer switch
Blue/yellow and Blue/White- to temperature sensor
Black - ground
Black/Blue and Green/Orange Dome lights
grey/black- speed sensor(not required)
Grey/Yellow 12V+

I have to run back out to Pick-n-Pull tomorrow so I may pick up one or two more of the consoles. If I do I will post them in the for sale section as forum rules don't allow selling in the general forum.

I will post up some pics for sure

Huh... just did this:

A dremel is a must for trimming down the console. Make a cardboard cut out of the headliners form and trim the console to match. I didnt trim the middle and thus the gap at the rear.

Thanks for the pics. I am in the middle of installing it now. I had to run up and get some cut off wheels for the dremel. I will post my pics later tonight when I am done

Here is where i started marking the headliner to cut

Cut the headliner

drilled two new holes to mount the bracket where it actually hits the brace

drilled the mounting holes in the roof brace( be careful not to go through the roof)
I also added a third mounting point to keep the bracket flush

Here is the mounting bracket all bolted up

Here is the console trimmed and mounted

Now I just need to wire it up

Do the Exploder type consoles have any storage areas?

Very cool. Sounds like this could be a do-able swap into a lot of vehicles given that it's pretty much stand-alone.

What is the date range of the Explorers this was found on?
Where is the temp sensor located?

The ones I found them onat the pick n pull here were from 1996 to 2000 model years. I am sure it went much newer that 2000 though. The sensor is mounted on the drivers side where the front bumper brack meets the radiator support. I went back out to the pick n pull this morning and grabbed a couple of more, as well as an electronic mirror out of a mercury sable so if any body wants one check the for sale section and I will have them listed later today

Thanks, lots of those in the junkyard these days, so should be easy enough to find. And yes, I imagine they were used through the end of 3rd gen production in 2005, as I seem to recall that my dad's 2005 Mountaineer has this.
