The Spring Special was a sales promotion to encourage sales of the Econoline pickups in Spring 1965, specifically from May 1 through July 20. The dealer could order these special pickup trucks without paying the extra $251.90 for the following custom features. This savings was often passed on to the customer.
Special Poppy Red Paint
Bright Body Side Moulding (wider than regular moulding)
4.95 x 14" White Side-Wall Tires
Falcon Knock-Off Hub Wheel Covers
Left-Hand Chrome Mirror
Front and Rear Chrome Bumpers
Quarter Windows (5-windows)
Optional Racing Stripe
Optional Tonneau Cover
Here is the Spring Special dealer information page, which shows the options that Ford added to the pickups. The Poppy Red paint color was a special color for the Spring Special pickups. The wide side trim was available only on Spring Special pickups and some Falcon Deluxe Club Wagons.
These Spring Specials are considered to be rare. It is estimated that there were between 2,000 and 2,500 of these Spring Special pickups made.
Spring Specials are identified by an extra "1" at the end of the Axle code on the vehicle data plate.

Zigmyster Thank You!
Wow didn't expect all that from the VIN plate
Can't believe it's a Spring Special, it sat in a garage for 26 years, looks like it's all there, I'm really anxious now to get her fixed up!
Here are some photos after I got it cleaned up, I don't know if these were the original rims and caps. I'm thinking of doing the chrome cragers sst with the red line tires for that Hot Wheels look.
Or should I keep the originals and a wide white wall?
Also don't know if I'm gonna keep the side pipes.

Yea I kinda got lucky on finding this lil truck, but there is so much wrong with the wiring it's driving me insane, plus all the little stuff thats hard to find for these trucks.
The Visor is a sore point between me and the wife, she hates it and I like it.. I've never seen one like it before
Next up is finding the right rims and tires.
