Synthetic transmission oil

I have an 06 SCAB with 5.4 that I use for towing an RV regularly. Its time to service the tranny. Any recommendations on fluid; I'd like to change to all synthetic. Any other things to think about while the pan is off and I'm into it??

Thanks,
Doug

pick up a drain plug kit ($10) and put one in the pan when you have it off.

I just went with the Walmart brand Mercon V. At $4.80 a qt it's expensive enough as it is. Change it regulary and you wont have a problem. I added a transgo shift kit to mine. Good firm shifts that get harder when the go pedal is pushed. I was able to get 9 qts out of the 14 when I dropped the valve body. I was going to add a drain plug, even bought one, but since the pan is smaller and I was able to drop it and not make too much of a mess and it looks like I would have to put it in the side of the pan for clearance I decided not to do it.

Please tell me more about your shift kit. I didn't know they made one.
Also wouldn't hurt to know how to take the valve body out. I was afraid something would fall out.

I have used Supertech from Walmart and Castrol from Advanceauto Parts, both with good results. If you have a AAP nearby you can order the Castrol online for store pickup and use an online rebate code.
I recently used one from here:

this is the one I am using. TransGo | AODE, 4R70/75W: AODE-HD2 Watch the video. It is a little different from ours but basic idea. I towed with it over the 4th and it did great. You will feel the 2-3 shift, like NOW! A couple times it shifted so fast/hard the serpintine belt chirped when it shifted. Your wife/gf my ask wth did you do to the truck... lol When your just crusing it will shift nice and firm. There is nothing to fall out until you take the plate off the valve body. Then there are some ck ***** but the instructions tell you where to put them. Summitracing is where I got mine for around $90 shipped.

Check ebay. I got the same kit for my truck and my friends 04 from the same seller for $40 plus shipping. I too am happy with the performance of the kit.
