EGT/RPM's while Towing 2002 7.3L
I have a 2002 7.3l that I bought a few months back and towed my camper with it for the first time yesterday and now have some qeustions, but let me tell you what it has done to it. It has a banks cold air intake, banks exhaust, suncoast shift kit and then little odds and ends...no programmer.
My question is while towing my camper (5500lbs empty 10,000 loaded) I would like to know what do guys usally see there EGT temps get to mine runs 4 to 6 normally, is 10 to 13 ok or what should I see at the most. RPM's are my big question when I tow I have always turned off my OD but I have never had a shift kit in a truck like this has. At 55mph towing I am running about 2800rpms it just seems a little high....if I do kick the OD on the RPMs drop to about 16 to 1700 and the speed and rpms hold solid and it don't kick in and out of OD.
Thanks in advance

with no programmer or tuner you probably shouldnt be seeing more than 11-1200 degrees on the gauge....what kind of boost numbers are you getting? on stock injector and a stock turbo pulling an 11k concession trailer mt egt's didt see that high until the mountain pass....youve got some diagnosing to do....im willing to bet your uppies are leaking and you have boost leaks somewhere.....you shouldnt have to take it out of o/d at all it will tow 10k all day long in o/d....over 1200 degrees for longer than 30 seconds or so isnt a good idea either....when you attack a hill while towing it is a good idea to keep the rpm's up to help keep the egt's down.....

Indy---- I would say my EGT's are good then on flat land just rolling I am right around that area or lower... My boost when I am taking off will shoot up to 15 depending on how I am getting on it I am a very light foot driver I don't like beating my trannys up stomping on it. I am heading up the moutains tomarrow so we will have a better idea. Power wise this truck has now lags, hick-ups, it just wants to go. I really appreciate the info on keeping the boost up I would have thought the complete oppisite, that spooling the turbo would make the temps rise.. thank you so much for the help
