What your HPOP o-rings should look like, and where they go 2003/2004
Hi Guys,
Thought I would share a few pictures of what the O-Rings and D-Ring looks like on the first gen HPOP, and where they go, it's EXTREMELY important, as I found out from my recent experience. This is for 2003 and 2004 engines with the Bosch pump. New pump design was introduced MY 2005.
There are 3 o-rings in the kit from Ford. I paid $6.13 for my kit today Ford # 3C3Z-9G804-AA, to replace the ones that were incorrectly installed last year, by a small town shop. So, the yellow one, goes under the pump, against the engine block. The thin black one goes on top of the pump, between the discharge tube flange and pump, and the stiff black D-Ring, goes in the groove on the outside of the discharge tube, that mates with the pump cover.
And on the right, you can see what happens when you put the yellow one on top, where the D-Ring should go.
Thanks to M-Chan68 and Cheezit for spotting this mistake in my truck, and for suggesting to look under the pump as well. See what I found?
They simply got them backwards. I wonder if this is what they did 4 times in three years and really, only the first time had the pump failed?
Oh well, live and learn.
I hope this saves someone similar grief someday.
Cheers
Paul

Yes, amazing something so simple can cripple a fine engine like ours. It's been raining here pretty much since March...so no not back together yet. It's now supposed to be hot and sunny for a week so will be changing out harnesses tomorrow and should have it running by days end.

And then there are times you pay BIG money to take it up the A** in any situation where you are paying money to the Government. The BIG money to pay the criminally overpaid Government workers has to come from somewhere to fund their workers' lavish lifestyles off our backs.
But back on topic, I hope you get yourself up and running soon.
