Turbo seals? Turbo was making weird sounds past few cold starts and blue smoke coming out as well almost every time truck was started after sitting 30+ mins.

By the way, 4” turbo back, no turbo maintenance done since I’ve owned this truck. Seems to have a lot of lag compared to my buddies 05 with a wicked wheel as well. Thanks y’all.

Turbo seals!

First cold day up here...-18C this morning when I woke up, block heater doesnt work. Started the truck no issues but the turbo vanes locked up and I was way way way overboosting. Drove easy, then restarted the truck and all was fine.

Oil/Coolant/Tranny temp were all 12F when the SCT turned on!

She is COLD out there! Replaced the block heater at work today so we'll see how tomorrow morning goes...supposed to hit -29C

Could be a seal. Pull the outlet pipe off the turbo and stick your finger in
and feel around and see if it comes out with dry soot or oily soot.

Great. Thanks y’all. Btw, the EGR is deleted so I don’t think coolant is on the table for this one.
yall think it would be best to rebuild this turbo or just buy a new one? Thanks.

Don't just throw a turbo at the problem unless your sure that is it. Too many times people have thrown parts at a problem and then
made noise about how expensive this engine is.

Pull the pipe and if you feel oil then pull the turbo out then check in the up pipes for oil. If you find clean up pipes then you have the issue
narrowed down to the turbo. Then it a case of do you want to do a kit or get a center section and call it good. When you open the turbo
up look to see how the unison ring and the vanes look. If you find nice parts rebuild kit will save you some money. If you find a chewed up
mess that a rebuilt turbo from Ford or a new one night be the way to go. At this point you can go same or larger.

well said about not throwing parts at it. I’m just looking at the worst (best) option in my head. Once it clears up over here in VA I’ll take the turbo out (since I’ve wanted to clean it regardless) and share my findings.

If you do want to do the repair yourself ask and someone will likely let you know what kits to use.
Or if your already tuned you might want to look into the Power Max turbo.

Well the best way is to use the search tool and limit the search to the 6.0L forum.
The tool is in the top blue line and you want to use advanced so that you can get
access to the options and not end up with something for a 6.7 or 6.4 or worse yet a 7.3.

Here is one thread I found with a quick search >>> https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...it-to-use.html

Not sure if you can access my search results with this or not >>> https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...rchid=29404503

There a thread around of a dude that had a leaky seal. The seal totally failed, his engine ran away and grenaded.....minor problem turned into a 10k problem, so be weary about fixing it if it is the seal.

Alright guys. Weather cleared up. Looks like a bad seal! I’ll tear it apart in a little while.

The Y pipe (is that what it's called) appears wet. I am not sure it's the turbo or "only" the turbo.

Update: I looked again, and it appears to be wet outside also. So maybe it was sprayed on by cleaner liquid.

Check the HPOP, IPR and ICP. Also check the oil cooler.
