my truck has had ice cold air for about two years. i brought it in to have the exhaust manifolds re done, and now my ac doesnt work. i put the gauge on it and the pressure just shoots up as far as the guage will go. the compressor is not coming on. symptoms of a bad compressor, but like, WTF? is this just coincidental or could the mech have done something to mess up the ac system?

One thing I can think of is he "may" have knocked the plug off of the low pressure switch on the accumulator. With that plug undone the compressor will not run.

There is not much room on that side to work on manifolds, so it is a possibility.... and certainly worth checking..

low pressure plug was not knocked off. i brought the truck back to the mech who did the work and he said the freon was very low but apparently he "couldnt have opened the system". he said the system calls for 2 lbs but could only pump in 1 lb and he had to put it in through the high side since the low side wasnt taking anything. the compressor comes on but over cycles. he says it could be a very dirty filter and hes gonna replace it tomorow and go from there. i just dont see how the ac system magically ran out of freon and jammed up in the two days he had the truck.
