Ford F150 EB (or 5.0) vs Toyota Tundra
#76
well just to chime in, today i had to pull a 7000 # trailer over the hill to Santa Cruz and then back. well i got it there and never had a problem, but had to leave early and go get the other trailer the dude driving the trailer broke down. as i pulled up i noticed it was a friend who just bought a Toyota 2012 4x4 tundra extra cab 4 door. we think he blow his rear end out. in 4 hi it would still pull thats how he got to the pull out where i hooked up to it. it got towed to the dealer hes got just over 8000 miles on it. now its a dam nice truck got every thing one could need. but dam 8000 miles and already blows differential. we put it in 2x and put it in gear and drive line spins and its making a lot of grinding noise and makes the truck jump and shake a LOT.

Tundra rear axles are either 10.5" for those with the tow package or 9.5" without.

What you describe sounds like a cleaned out ring and pinion. (did that to an 8" Ford myself)
That would be a pretty good trick with an axle like that.
Front axles seem to be a problem with the Tundra, but not so much the rear.
That sure would make you question your purchase though....

You are just going to be spinning your wheels on that one. The only thing that you could probably take away from that topic(which is a thread onto itself) is what not to use, but even that will probably be subject to debate.
Best that I can say, do your own research (not knowing what other people have done for their own research isn't going to help you much in this endeavor), find what makes you and your budget happy and go with that.
As to service, I typically follow what is in the manual. If they have it broken down by normal and severe service (or some derivative of that) then I usually do the severe service, regardless if the truck goes through hell and back. Might be more of a placebo effect, but my trucks are clean.

Toyota quality seems to have suffered some since it went Racing. All in all it is a great 4X4. The 4X4 is probably much better/stronger than the Ford 4X4 system. All in all Fords is perty good. That Ford frame from about 3 feet back is great. The very front not so good. Adding cross brackets up front to it will help.
Real world embarrassment.

for me as well
This one fella....BigTexTundra (google him I dont even want to post a link) reminds me of those rabid Obama voters.
My gosh he is way over the top on the Ford bashing.
On this site, even if you drive something else, there is no bashing for your decision.
That being said, I am a long time Ford truck owner have owned several. Just bought a new 2014 Ford XLT with the 5.0. I wanted tried and true and proven that had served me well in the past so I came back to the dance with the one that brung me originally.

Yep, I'm on that Tundra forum too, and old BigTex - the boy does not like Fords. I also noticed somebody there did a thread asking everyone's age on that Tundra forum - no wonder, most of those boys are just that - real boys. Nothing wrong with youth, but a bit o' studying in ye olde school of hard knox does temper some people down a mite. I leave a place if people start being disrepectful.
