1956 cowl vent

I need to fix or replace the wire mesh on the cowl vent. The mesh has a hole in the corner about the size of a half dollar. Any suggestions about this would be very helpful. Thanks.

Mid Fifty offers to buy cowl vent assemblies. They don't list them for sale in their catalog, but they must do something with them, I'd give them a call.

Couldn't you find some comparable material, solder it to the mesh and paint it black

You might try the local farm supply store, I bought some screen just a while back that had about 1/8 " mesh. Just a thought.

Not sure if they are the same, but I have an extra complete vent from my 55 F-100.

After a quick web search I came up with this site Plain Steel Mesh data, prices, helpful information, steel screens
They list the wire mesh in terms of the number of mesh per inch. It seems to be very inexpensive for the plain steel wire that was used on the F100.

Yes, I've thought about using solder to patch a new piece in. That might be easier than putting a whole new piece in. Is it easy to get the vent out? How is the wire mesh attached to the vent? Thanks for all the help.
