Thinking about switching to 255/85R16 tires from stock 265/75 tires
I'm planning next years snow tires as my current set of Nokian Vativa tires are looking a little long in the tooth.
I am thinking about going to a set of "pizza cutter" tires. My old rig (a 1960 F250 4WD) had these when I was in Fairbanks and they were excellent in the snow.
I'm looking at the BFG Mud Terrain 255/85R16.
Three questions:
Has anyone tried this size and had any suspension or clearance problems with our rigs?
What about when hauling a heavy load?
Finally, these tires have a diameter of about 33.07 inches compared to my current stock 265/75 tires that have a diameter of 31.65 inches. This is going to affect my speedometer and odometer readings. Is there a way to correct for this in the electronics of the vehicle?
Thanks for advice and insight into this.
BTW, this forum ROCKS!

I have not driven a whole lot in snow, but traction was acceptable for the conditions I was in. They can be studded and I suspect would be stellar winter tires like that.
These pics are from the 1rst set. I've just worn out the 2nd set and will be getting more sooooon!!

FYI - 255/85R16s worked great on my F250. My front end is leveled but that's it; no lift kit. I had no rubbing or any other issues at all with them. Our trucks are too heavy to be able to "float" on snow, so the only other option is to cut through or pack down the snow to get something solid to grip. Glad you found some tires you like but for next times, you can run 255/85's if you want.
