front drive shaft ? and noise.
Hi,
recently I have noticed a strange noise from my truck when I am driving. I really hear it about 35-40 miles an hour. It sounds like it's coming from right under my center console. I really don't know how to describe the noise, not a squeek, not a clunk, just a noise that sounds like a drive line noise. My first thought is a U-joint. I have driven it close to buildings though and I don't hear that typical u-joint squeak. I checked my transmission fluid and transfer case fluid and both were fine. So I was looking at the front drive shaft and see that it actually has serviceable u-joints. here's my question there, does the front drive shaft turn when I am driving in 2wd or only in 4wd? My guess is that it doesn't, but I don't know for sure. I have the stupid non-serviceable u-joints on my main drive shaft, so if it is a u-joint I might just get a new drive shaft from driveshaftspecialist.com. they seem reasonable. I really think it is the u-joint that is closest to the transfer case going out, but I don't know for sure. Anybody know about the front drive shaft question and any ideas. Thanks guys.
