Pull to the right, or get more creative.........
From my personaal observations driving emergency vehicles for 30 years in my little slice of heaven here in the Philly suburbs, Drivers seem to be about 2 to 3 times more likely to pull over well ahead of an approaching Ambulance than for a firetruck. Interesting, as our Engines are much larger, have more lights and make a lot more noise than the Ambulances. Always fun to watch them as they look at us in their mirrors as they accelerate to stay ahead of us rather than pull over.
Over the course of my 30 year career I was only involved in two accidents while driving the apparatus.
First one happened as I was making a right turn onto a side street after comming to a stop as we went on location of an accident scene. As I began the turn in the Mack Engine/Rescue a driver lodged his left front fender/bumper under my right rear duals as he attempted to pass the rig on the shoulder. The Police were very unsympathetic about his urgent need to get to the pizza joint to pick up his order.
The second accident is my favorite, As I was just clearing an intersection, (4 lanes wide at a mall entrance, we had a green light tripped by our optical traffic controller) going about 35MPH we were rear ended hard enough to drive our class 5 trailer hitch reciever through the nose of a Lexus. The Lexus driver was unable to explain how he failed to notice the responding Engine to the State Trooper.

Probably should play that or something like it at every driver's ed class. It never ceases to amaze me the things kids just don't absorb sometimes just from being alive. I guess they are bombarded with too much useless info. As for anyone driving any length of time that is clueless, just makes me realize how we got Pres.... Oh I better not say that.

I always make it a point to move over and make the move as soon as possible.
ONE THING EVERYONE SHOULD THINK ABOUT IS.......
THE EMERGENCY VEHICLE COMING UP BEHIND YOU MAYBE
GOING TO YOUR HOUSE OR GOING TO HELP
YOUR FAMILY MEMBER.
There is a law in legislation here that will require at
least one lane open between emergency vehicles assisting
motorists on the side of the road.
Recently an on duty police officer was killed when his cruiser was
rear ended by a truck.
