Oil leak…. Again!

[SIZE=3][FONT=Calibri]Hey guys, so after rebuilding my turbo and pedestal about a month and a half ago because of a leaking EBPV actuator I come out to my truck today to find the dreaded oil drips on the concrete under my truck. So when I got home I took a look in the valley and I find the front half is dry but there is a pool of oil in the rear of the valley under the pedestal. I checked the EBPV actuator and its dry along with turbo. As I was shining my flashlight around I came across the plug for the EBPV and it looks wet. I was wondering if these are prone to leaking? I don’t think the orings I replaced in the pedestal or the turbo are leaking but I guess anything is possible. Hpop lines are dry along with the non-serviceable plug. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks Cody

Don’t know if this has anything to do with it but I ran the old girl pretty hard the other night heading to Lexington, Ky for a concert and it wasn’t leaking before that so maybe that has something to do with it. I tried doing a search but I didnt come up with anything.

So I assume you replaced the o-rings above and below the pedestal if you pulled it to rebuild it? I haven't seen the plug leak before, but anything is possible.

What did you torque the turbo bolts down to when you re-installed it? Have you checked the pedestal and turbo bolts to see if they're still within spec?

I replaced all the orings on the pedestal. I checked and everything was tight as can be. I cant remember what I torqued the bolt to but it was whatever was in the instructions. I felt all around the pedestal and it was dry but oil in the valley... kinda confusing me.

I hear that ford and garrett have different torque specs for the turbo to pedestal bolts. Garrett having the higher torque value, thats the one I went with when doing my stuff. I believe the torque spec was something like 36ft/lbs but I could be way off.

Maybe you just have left over oil in the valley and stuff. I'd wait a month or so before calling any oil drops a "leak".

Check your fuel bowl lines and o-rings. Mine had what I thought was oil in the valley under the turbo and ran down between motor and tranny. It was diesel mixed with road grime and looked like oil!

I recently rebuilt my turbo and ran accross an oil leak after 100 miles or so. Thought initially it was the pedestal to block leaking but after much agonizing and inspection I have determined my intake boots are leaking. The rubber will eventually degrade to where it does not seal well and will leak. Mine runs down the inside edge of the intake plates, off the back of the heads and meet underneath at trans access cover. Also puts a small puddle in the valley midway. PLanning on replacing all plus the intake inserts with the Riffraff kits when I have the cash.
