Mann 6.0 oil filters (side by side pictures) $7.29!
OK, Dieselflitersonline.com states that Racor makes the Mann filters. So, I went ahead and ordered one with this purchase of filters.
They are the same dimensions in all regards. Except, the top and bottom pieces are thicker on the Mann filter vs. Racor.
There is also a valve of some sort in the top of the Mann filter. It closes when the filter is full inside.
Here are the pictures.

Ever since Ford put out the 5.4 3v motor...they're motors are very very picky about oil filters. Using anything other than the FL-820S filter in a 5.4 3v causes valve train noises due to shoddy check valve in 3/4 of the filters on the market
while that filter looks very similar, I'd avoid. Paying for the Racor one isn't fun, but it's proven to avoid problems

Any thoughts on the check valve?

I'm not interested in saving $6 on an oil filter.
Having said that, I'm not sure that is a check valve in the top of the filter. That end snaps into the cap, and is normally a blind end. No flow through the top. So it might just be a difference in how it is molded. Did you try depressing that area? Is it spring loaded? Or just solid?

Now, in the motorcraft video, they show that the OEM filter "engages the by-pass valve on top of the oil stand pipe". (at 1:03 in the video)
So, why the ball?
Just so you all know, I do not, and didn't plan on using this filter. My curiosity about this filter got the best of me. So, spending the $7 was for information, not savings. After seeing the difference, even besides the check valve, I'll stick with the other 3 filters I bought, RACOR.

Found this picture of a Mann filter on another site. As you can see in one photo, a close up of where the little ball sits. I am assuming that the little cage also "engages the by-pass valve on top of the oil stand pipe". And the ball must float up to close the opening, thus preventing by-pass?
I have seen on another site people using these filters because "RACOR makes them, thus they are ok"
And I am in no way supporting these filters, just trying to educate myself on them.

Here is the company US based distribution web site.
Oil Filters, Air Filters, Fuel Filters: Stocking factory authorized distributor of MANN Filters
And the Mann web site.

I think the dieselfiltersonline reference to Racor as the manufacturer is incorrect.
I am disappointed that dieselfiltersonline has now chosen to sell these as well as the Primeguard. And this morning I am getting a security warning when I visit their site.

I haven't had any warnings on Dieselfiltersonline.com, but thanks for the heads up.
It would be doing a great disservice to their customers if they are wrong about Racor making them.
Funny thing about PrimeGard filters. The Ford dealer in Oregon where I bought my truck from gave me free oil changes for the time I own the truck. I hadn't learned about oil filters back then. All they use is the Primegard filters. Even Ford wants to save some bucks!
