Rewiring kit for my 78 F250
Hi, I just recently bought a 1978 F250 XLT Ranger and noticed that the previous owner really hacked away at alot of the wiring. Like underneath the dash and the engine compartment. Its getting to the point that I just want to rewire the whole truck. I traced and pulled almost 200 feet of wiring most that led nowhere out of the truck, or to owner additions that didnt work anymore. Im replacing the Dash cause there are so many holes for switches and stuff made and figured while I went that far, I might as well try to fix or rewire what I can.
I emailed Painless performance and they said that they have a kit that covers 66-77 Broncos, but nothing that perfectly replaces the 73-79 Trucks or 78-79 Broncos. I know this wont be an easy job, but im tired of having soo many electrical problems.
Has anybody done this yet?? Also, Im looking at finding a parts truck that I can get the wiring from.
Is the wiring Harness one complete system??? Or does it break apart with connectors at different locations.
Any help would be appreciated.

I had to do the same thing with mine. I ended up pulling every single wire that wasn't stock and then getting replacement sections as needed.
I'd suggest that you do the same, remove everything that's not stock then go to a junk yard and get the sections that need replacing.
You should have
1 section for the rear lights
1 for the front firewall area to the rear lights
1 for left front lights
1 for right front lights
the inside fuse box connects to the 'main' part of the wires and is the hardest to replace and also where most splices are made for inside switchs/guages.
Most aftermarket wire setups don't have the connectors like the factory ones do, so finding a good doner is probably the best way.
I did have to make a new run from the firewall back to the rear lights because I couldn't find a good doner. I use a 4wire trailer light setup that was new from a local parts house and it worked great.
You can also just reuse the ends and remake the runs if you can't find good donors.

i found a company that makes a full wireing kit for fords. CENTECH WIRE their web site is http://www.centechwire.com/. it is just like the painless kit but it uses ford style connecters at all the light sockets and other conections. check em out. as soon as i can afod the kit i am going to purchase it so i can stop messing around with all the stock wireing that i have no idea where it all goes.

OK, You might remember earlier when I asked the question regarding replacing the entire wiring harness. Heres one of my problems that I need help with.
I need to find where the horn relay is. My truck does not have one that I can see. I went and bought a new relay and need to know where it plugs into.
Anyone have a schematic or pictures that is easy to follow. I might need to rewire it or something.
Thanks
