My Introduction - New member with 1st dentside

Hello, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Jason. After wanting a 73-79 Ford for many, many years, I finally found and bought a 76 F250 4X4 a little over a month ago. It is original and rust free. It is a Ranger XLT w/ manual transmission. It has a few issues but nothing major.

Since I've owned this thing I've been lurking around the site. I've had several questions but have managed, after searching, to find most of the answers so I haven't posted before now. I've decoded the VIN tag except the DSO which has 6 digits instead of two (pic below). Can somebody tell me what exactly it means? I would also like to find a vacuum diagram if someone can point me in the right direction.

Very nice truck. I think you chose wisely on your first go around. Hopefully someone can help with the warranty tag info. That kind of stuff has never been important to me, so I never bothered to learn about it.

I read in another thread that the 6 digit code was a customer special order.

The 2 digit codes were standard inventory orders the other 4 was extra info for special orders.

Numberdummy has the answer on the DSO. He can probably tell you what the guy had for lunch that built it.

Could be. The passenger window and about 1/4 of the windshield has a haze on it that's rough to the touch. I tried to remove it off with Softscrub cleanser but it didn't touch it. Any suggestions?

Try some #00 steel wool on the windows, should take it right off, unless the glass is scored. Nice looking truck, I've got one myself. 76 is my favorite year, last year for the FE and 1st year for the disc brake D44 front end.

Your DSO is "72", San Jose. Your truck was special ordered with something that was not a regular production option (RPO). The last four digits of your number (2220) is the Dealer Special Order Number. What was ordered could be anything from special paint (no paint code on warranty plate) to stake bodies, flat beds that weren't dealer installed. The special order parts aren't going to be listed in the parts catalog, so if a replacement part is needed, the dealer contacts Ford with the four digit DSO number and Ford looks up the correct part.
P.S. That's one nice truck!
