Gas Pedal to push rod

Does anyone have a trick for making sure the aftermarket gas pedal does not fall off the end of the throttle linkage rod? It seems like it should be a "Ball and socket " deal but the stock rod just has a blunt end, and the aftermarket gas pedal has a hole,,,but nothing to keep them from seperating. Thanks!

Thats the way Henry made them 60 some years ago - A lot of older cars and Trucks used that set up - Only time it's a hassle is if the pedal base mount is broke or loose

I don't know what year truck you're working on, but the 48-52's have a small piece of rod with a ball end that snaps into the socket on the back of the pedal, and a spring that connects the small rod to the main throttle linkage going through the floor. It sounds like you may be missing the short rod and spring. They are available in replacement form from your friendly truck parts vendor.

Wayne, do you have a part number of this rod w/ball end? I think my 52 is missing it as well. Thanks.

+1 here. Thanks, Joe!

I was just too lazy to look up the part myself.

Green Sales has 84 of the spring. Here's a complete list of vendors with both parts, http://www.partsvoice.com/partsearch

The throttle linkage and the rod both slide inside opposite ends of the spring which has enough grip to snugly hold them together, but not so tight that you can't get the pedal rod out of it easily by just pulling up on it with some force (for tranny cover removal).

EDIT: The spring is sort of like one of those "Chinese fingercuffs" that kids get as prizes at carnivals, amusement parks, etc.
