E4OD..new here..thanks in advance.

97 F-350 psd, I have a trans issue and maybe I could be redirected to another post. I have an intermitent o/d light flashing, with hard shifting, and a code [which I have written down and will provide tomoro] we replaced the solenoid pack ---the connector was leaking fluid etc. ---the issue comes and goes at random times, I believe it is an electrical issue somewhere,,,, when the light goes out, it shifts fine. any thoughts would be much appreciated.thanks.

Check all your brake light bulbs, especially the third brake light up on the cab. I know it sounds crazy, but it can cause this.

thanks already! I believe it is a code 1728? I would have to look in the morning. I have 2 awesome mechanics at my disposal.[when I get their time!] and plenty of scan tools and diagnostic equipment.... I just dont want to buy a transmission for no reason.

My thoughts are that something is wrong. Without the codes that's as specific as I can get.

I had a buddy with that problem and the VSS was broken. New one and issues resolved.

I love having the option to disregard VSS circuit malfunctions.

P1728 is often set in an E4OD because of a crack in the apply piston inside the torque converter. It can also set due to a speed sensor issue. If the vehicle speed sensor is bad and sending bad info to the PCM it will calculate a speed difference that can set that code. My money is on the converter.

Great info!! thanks. Im sure you could guess my next question......do I change the converter? maybe a heavy duty aftermarket ? I am trying to avoid a full rebuild. I very much appreciate your insight. The converter issue definately makes sense.

How many miles on the trans?
You might want to do a full build. I'd hate to see you put a 650.00 convertor in it a Dix month down the road the trans go out and the you have to replace the con. again
