I would run a file over just that area. I went to a school on bearing installation at one of my factory jobs, and they said emery or "sanding" takes too much metal off the whole complete circumference. They said it's better to file it too much in one spot, than to emery the whole thing and potientally make a large area undersized.

They make a socket that threads onto the spindle and then you use a slide hammer to remove. File that ding smooth and use it. The seal rides on the raised portion towards the bolt flange.

And don't forget to use never-seize when you reinstall it back in. 15 years later after doing my 84 F250 I had to replace the u-joint. The spindle just fell off after I took the bolts out!

Just don't get never-seize in any seals or bearings.
