'65 352, 4sp, 4.10 rear. I was getting in the 9's. Upped the timing to 10* and when I checked this last tank today, it was 11.2.

There's an AX code on the door tag, but since the gears may have been swapped, check for a tag on one of the pumpkin / axle housing bolts. It'll have a 3-digit number for the ratio with a period or an L (for traction-lok) between the numbers.

Rear axle ratio

Hey here's a link to a great website where you can find out your rear end ratio!
Just have your trucks Vin plate numbers handy!

I've got a 292 with original trans in my 64 My rear gears are 3.00 It cruises down the freeway with no strain. I won't win a race with it, but I'd look cooler than the guy I was racing once I crossed the finish line.
As for MPG, I don't care, These old trucks are just a blast to drive and fix up.
Part of owning an old truck and keeping stock and original engine is the MPG you don't get. I never worry of resale value, because my truck won't be for sale.
Bottom line "It is what it is"
Drive and enjoy.

I get about 11 around town, 13.5 in 4th @ 70-80, 16.5 in overdrive @70-80mph with my built 292 and 3.70 rear. I'm actually going to try a 4.11 to improve the highway economy because I think it's turning too slowly for the build of the engine. 70 is about 1800rpm in overdrive.

From what I've seen, 302s are not the best choice for these trucks, but it should do better than 7mpg. It probably needs some tuning to get the combination working well.

Been working alot so i have not been able to do much with the truck. Tomorrow I have off from work so I am bringing it to a transmission shop as it has been shifting erratically. After i get the transmission sorted out I hope to get it dyno tuned to make sure it is running properly. Got 6 MPG this last tank Hopefully getting tuned and the transmission working properly will take care of things.

Ill do something with it eventually but I work call shifts for an operating room so I need to get a reliable daily driver first. But if this is going to be a project instead of a driver then I wont have to worry about things such as gas mileage lol.

I'm taking my f250 out next week to the desert, 133 miles one way so we'll see what she does for mpg, ill be estatic if I get more then 10. Specs are 1964 f250 4x4, t98, d24, 4.56 gears, 35in tire, and a moderatly built 390 pushing about 400 hp. I'm shooting for 12-13mpg but will be happy with 10.
