My 2 cents...My experience has demonstrated to me repeatedly that the longevity of a rebuilt alternator is a function of the quality of parts used in the rebuild and the dedication of the tech doing the rebuild. With this in mind, I have always favored local auto-electric shops which have been in business for many years AND has a great reputation among auto/truck enthusiasts of the area. I personally like to be able to talk to the tech and describe my proposed usage of the alternator and what I need. Sometimes the tech, based on my input, will make suggestions to make the rebuilt alternator more reliable in my application. The resultant alternator will not be the cheapest, but will be dependable. That is all I really care about...price be damned (quality rebuild parts and guality work cost money), I want to have an alternator (and starter) that are reliable and someone local standing behind them.

I had rebuild from NAPA that start showing the light on day 2 and was giving me intermiate problems for 2 months before it died.
Bought NEW from Kragen (now O'rallys) and this one is working well for about a year.
Funny part, new cost less than rebuild.

I agree with nlemerise. I think it depends alot on the tech doing the rebuild.
I went cheap on my last replacement... From Autozone. The Duralast for about $170.

The first one died about 6 months after I got it so I got a free replacement and that one has been in my truck for about 2yrs now without issue.

I agree with the local alternator shop rebuilding your original. They usually use better parts and go above and beyond & help if you have a problem. They usually will check your bad one and talk to you free about what they would do to get you up and running.

Good luck!

Not bad, i ask the rebuilder if a could go 130 amp instead of 110, it's 100$ more. Hope they last like stock, 9years 143,000 on mine before rebuild.

I have the original alt on my f-250 w/180,000 miles and on my Excursion it went bad at 100,000. I got a Oreily's lifetime replacement and have since replaced it two more times in 60,000. I wish I would have kept the original from my Ex and had it rebuilt.
