1989 F-150 429 Swap help!!
I was given a 429 by a buddy for my i6 4x4 5speed. I want to swap the i6 for the 429. Need as much info for this swap,as being an ex chevy guy new to all the ford setups and what parts inter-swap. Here to listen to all information and setups. Thanks for all the help...

a 429 is just a de-stroked 460. you pretty much just need a tranny to go with it, I'm pretty sure the bellhousing bolt pattern are the same for both.
You also need...
motor mounts
fuel pressure regulator to bring the psi down
oil filter relocation kit
appropriate throttle cable
Lots of patience
I'm sure I'm forgetting some stuff...but that's what I can think of off the top of my head. What cab/box combo is your truck by the way? It has no impact on the installation of the big block, just curious.

Ford, unlike Chev, has a bell pattern for almost every engine series. As per the prior post, you will need a different trans. The 5 speed trans on your six is either a Mazda or ZF, with an integral bell. I has the SBF pattern, same as the 302 and 351W. It will not fit your 429.
ZF 5 speeds were installed behind 460s, and one of those will fit. You may have to get the TC along with the trans to make it all work. Count on some driveshaft work as well.
IMO this is a poor swap. What kind of 429 is it? An early, high compression? Or a truck motor from a medium--in which case another can of worms is opened.....

Early motors, which would all be worn out by now anyway, had 10.5 or 11: 1 CR. '72-'73 had reduced CR and were way down on power.
Truck 429s may have a different crank with a larger pilot bushing. In addition, they are usually governed, have cams made for low end and not much over 3500-4000 rpm, and sometimes small heads/valves.
Despite all that, a 429 is a good basic engine and can be made into a real firebreather with the right parts.
The issue in your case is all the stuff that needs to be changed to make the swap. The costs and time involved raise the question mark.

So now you guys have me thinking about ditching the 429 for a 351w... This seems to be a simplier and better choice. Any setup ideas? My plans is to lift 4-6 inches put 4.10 or 4.11s under it. I do excavating and its a work truck for the mountains up here.. Im always in the mud.. Plus def want ppl to here me roll up in the beast..

351w would be simpler and give you enough power. However you might be better off still to go find another truck altogether. I think you'd have to go to an F250 or 350 to get 4.10 gears but you'd be able to get the 351w or a 460 with a 5 speed and even a limited slip rear diff if you hunt around. I forget what the door code is for the gears but the door tag code will tell you the ratio and open or LS diff. And an F350 would have a dana 60 solid front axle which would be easier to lift.

I would put in a 351w, but I guess your budget is a big thing too. If you can find another truck with an EFI 351 that would be ideal. Even if it's a truck that has a terrible body, or is wrecked from the rear of the truck or was rolled over, you need the motor and the wiring. I would also lean towards an F250 or 350 that may have a ZF5 speed, which would also be ideal as they are very tough. and If you have an F350 parts truck, you could transplant the D60, and Sterling 10.25 axles and suspension and BAM, jacked up truck. They are also more likely to have the 4.11 gears. (typically the back and front of the truck will have a 0.01 ratio difference, the back will have 4.11 and the front will have 4.10.) You would have to fabricate quite a bit, but it would be a killer F150
