1976 f150 brakes?
im looking at buying a 76 f150 4x4 with a 352 and 4 speed trans. when the brakes are pressed, the pedal goes to the floor and the truck barely stops. what could be the problem? the owner says that he checked the brakes out and theyre fine. he thinks that the wheel bearings are causing the problem. could that be the problem? what should i tell him he should check out?

The owner says that he checked the brakes out and they're fine. He thinks that the wheel bearings are causing the problem.
The owner is either clueless or a baldfaced liar!
What should I tell him to check out?
Nothing. He already told you the brakes "are fine." So what do you expect he will say next?

Before buying this truck...it is IMO, up to you to find out what the brake problem is. If you leave it up to the owner, he won't do squat, because he's made no attempt so far...to fix it.
If the pedal goes to the floor, the brakes are not fine. The only way rear wheel bearings could have anything to do with it, is if their seals are leaking gear lube into the rear drums.
1976 F150 4WD's came with Power Brakes as standard equipment: Discs in the front, 11" x 2 1/4" rear drum brakes.
Possibles: Master cylinder leaking brake fluid into the booster. Disc brake calipers leaking, rear wheel cylinders leaking, rear axle seals leaking. Look on the insides of the wheels and tires for evidence of leaking fluid.
Disc brake pads worn. Rear brake shoes badly worn or totally out of adjustment.
Remove the cap from the master cylinder, check the brake fluid level. All 1967 and later vehicles have a dual chamber master cylinder.
Below the master cylinder is the brake differential proportioning valve. Has 4 brake lines threaded into it...check to see if fluid is seeping out.
Do NOT believe a single word a seller claims! Private sellers can lie just as well as used/new car dealers, lawyers...and politicians.
For example: 1967 was the last year the 352 was available. The only available engines for 1976 F100/250 4WD's: 300 I-6 or 360 2V
But, the truck may have a swapped in engine: Look on the registration for the 11 digit VIN the truck is registered by. The 4th digit of the VIN is the engine code: B = 300 I-6 / Y = 360 2V
