If you guys read what the OP said, his objective here is not to save money on fuel or to have a newer truck with a warranty. He's trying to get away from owning a 6.0 that's out of warranty because he doesn't want the risk of ending up with a huge repair bill should something go wrong with it. I don't blame him for that, I wouldn't want to own a diesel that wasn't under warranty either, other than maybe a 7.3.

Sounds like he wants to sell or trade the current truck and get a gasser of similar value, meaning there would be no payments.

OTOH, selling the diesel and using the proceeds to pick up a gasser might leave some extra cash in pocket.
I agree with the gasser getting worse mileage and I have a gasser, but for the minimal savings per year it's not worth it to me to buy a diesel. I went over this in 2004 when I bought my gasser. The oil changes alone on the diesel freaked me out, lol Everybody freaks out about the mileage, (do the math) but unless the new truck your buying gets at the very least double the mileage of the truck your replacing, it's not worth it in my opinion.

be cheaper to purchase and operate. I got 12 mpg towing a car/trailer with my old F-150 Supercrew.

Since you are towing highway, no hills, it's a better choice IMO
This might be the best suggestion here. An 04+ F-150 will tow a 6000 lb boat with ease and would definitely be more economical than a Super Duty. I've even seen some 04+ F-150s towing some decent size 5th wheel campers with no problem.

However, if having the SD is just a preference, that's understandable too. After owning a SD, I don't think I would like driving an F-150 even though that's all the truck I really need. I think there are quite a few of us here in that boat. We love our SDs too much to go back to a smaller truck, even though it costs us a bit more money.

An F-150 would work, but having towed with both, the F-250 just does a better job. The heavier truck, better towing suspension and large truck brakes are just confidence inspiring.

That's what I took away from the OP. Thus my suggestion of a similarly, if not slightly lower-priced gasser of comparable vintage.

I'd do that if I were in his shoes. I wouldn't do that if I were in my shoes. I like my 7.3 too much. (That, and my eventual plan is to be pulling about 12.5k up and down hills ).

Fuel milleage

The 3.73 should do better on fuel. You will have a lower tow rating. If you are going to do that, may as well get a F150.

I'm guessing he's already made his purchase since he asked 5 years and a month ago, lol.
