I think the 04 - are held in by a snap ring, 05 + have allen head bolts.

Yes, but you have the choice of swapping out with Warn or Milemarker manual hubs, and disabling the vacuum system. Those of us with the newer hubs have no aftermarket options. Fortunately our hubs and axle seals are less failure prone, but still far from reliable. It would be nice to have options.

Dealer diagnosed bad solenoid. Was going to have them do the work, but they posted "no guns" and I can't patronize a place that doesn't respect my right to carry.

So since I now know what the issue is, how hard is it to replace the solenoid that runs the vacuum lines for the 4wd?

Does anyone know where the solenoid is located?

Thanks in advance.

First of all I'm just glad to see that there are still people out there other than me that really stand up for the second amendment.

How many miles did you make it before having this problem? My dad has an 06 250 6.0 with those automatic locking hubs and I personally am not to found of them but I was just curious how long they lasted for you.

I like my 05 250 XL where I can feel the 4X4 ingage through the lever on the floor.

I have an 04 but before i got it when my dad owned it he had the hubs changed out twice because they failed, granted they were under warranty once but the second time he paid for them and now this winter my auto option is no longer working so i am going to service them and see if that fixes it..if not this will be the 4th set in my truck and i am just about to hit 85k miles. i have heard servicing them can do wonder sometimes however, i never knew you could service them until recently im not sure about 05+ models though.

4WD not working 06 Powerstroke

Hey guys,
I have an 06 Powerstroke I bought this past summer and I was in a field the other night with a few of my buddies and it got a bit muddy. the truck was stuck and I manually locked my truck into 4wd on the hubs, but the front tires were still not spinning so I had to be pulled out. Any ideas what is going on here? the truck only has 106,000 miles on it.

Thanks,
Mitch

I agree, I also carry, but lets try to keep the thread on topic please.
