Cost/Value of a Running 1996 460??????
I bought a 1996 F250 parts truck recently to fix my 94 F250. The parts truck has a 460 in it, that I will be parting with as I have a strong running 351. Not knowing what such sell for I called the largest local salvage yard and they quoted me $2000.00 for a Federal (Non-California) Emissions engine. They do not have any in stock but could have one in a few days. Is that normal for a used running 460? What do they charge for such in your local areas?

Sounds high to me, I think you'd be doing real good to get $1000 for it, if you can let the buyer hear it run before selling it. I dont think there's much of a market for a gas guzzling 460 any more. A salvage yard will probably offer a 30 day warranty also. I paid $500 for a 351w from a salvge yard about 5 years ago.

My jaw hit the floor when I heard that from the yard rep. I checked Craigslist and I am finding old terrible looking incomplete Carb engines ranging from $400-750. I am hunting all the way out to your neck of the woods, up to Reading, PA, the Delmarva peninsula and down to Richmond. I have not found any EFI engines available.
