Rear Leaf Spring Question

Rear Leaf Spring Question
I am planning on lowering my truck about 1 1/2- 2". I have read in the mid-fiftys catalog that I can accomplish this by moving the front mounting plate up to the top of the frame.
I was looking at the rear spring when I took apart the truck recently and here is a picture of the passenger side:
The last 2 leafs on the bottom seem unnecessary to me since they arent attached to the main leaf group. Im assuming these are used when carrying a heavy load? Is it possible to take these off to allow another 1/2 in of lowering or do they need to be there?
Thanks
Mike

Does this hanger attach to the front or rear mount on the rear leaf spring? It seems if it was on the rear mount that it would cause clearance issues with the wood part of the bed?
Does anybody have pictures of these on a truck?

Hey There, The extended "Y" goes on the rear part of the spring. They replace the stock "Y" hangers. The hanger you move is on the front of the spring.
Re: removing leafs from the springs - do a search on this site, there are articles on the subject. Also in the Mid 50s catalogue, it explains the different methods of lowering. Basically you take out every other leaf I believe starting at the bottom, removing 3. But take a look at the literature.
Take a look at my photos and you'll see where I have had my hangers moved 3" up (which will give 1.5" lowering). I'm also going to use the extended "Y" hangers (they give 1" drop) and will use lowering springs (most likely) for a 3.5 - 4" total drop in the back.
