Ford New Holland 6.6 Diesel Help

How do you remove the oil dip stick tube on the 6.6 Ford New Holland diesel?

My 1989 F700 suddenly would not even try to start. Yes, it seemed to hesitate the day before [only one short trip with it] the next day nothing! This thing is a first time, every time sort of truck so this has been a bit unsettling. After changing the ignition switch at be bottom of the column, which was apparently fine. Replacing the third battery...nine years old apparently. The other two were replaced in the spring. After replacing the starter solenoid, also was not bad and having power to the off side of the solenoid when the switch is turned it looks like I am down to removing the starter...which doesn't work with the dip stick tube in the block.

I am assuming the dip stick either threads in, or with bend that it has in it is press fit into the block. Any wisdom appreciated.

I think it's a press-in job. There may be an o-ring on it. Is there a keeper with a screw holding it in?

Clean it up and go easy on it to pull it out.

I did not see a screw. About 1 1/2 inch above where it goes into the block is a raised ridge and almost looked like a seam. So maybe two pieces.

I can't find any 6.6 specific info or pics. But I know at least one other member has experience with them and might add his take on it if he sees this.

I would gently work that and see if it is a seam--maybe it separates there vs. pulling out of the block.

Does the 89 F700 with the 6.6 Diesel and 5 speed tranny (2 spd axle) have a switch on the clutch that would affect the ignition?? My back is out today so I can't twist and contort to get under the dash but remember these on lighter vehicles.

Before I pulled the starter I’d jump across the solenoid to see if it would engage

Earlier I did check that and it didn't, but that was actually before I replaced that 3rd battery.
Before starting to remove the starter; 1) I did check the ignition again after replacing that 3rd battery [the other two replaced in May]. I could hear a bit from the bendix, but it didn't try to spin the starter. 2) I also checked the fire...shorted to the engine and had great arc then.

89 F700 6.6 Diesel - Clutch safety switch?

I'm still trying to get this 6.6 started again. Quit starting one morning...never any previous problems. Doesn't even try to turn over. Have replaced the ignition switch at the bottom of the column, the starter solenoid. Did these have a clutch safety switch on them??? I'm not seeing one. Looked on the transmission too [Fuller FS 4005]. Has the reverse switch on top. There are two relays to the left of the column under the dash. I suspect one is the relay for the fuel pump...and the other might possibly be related. Any ideas???

There is no clutch or neutral safety switch. You replaced the solenoid on the starter itself? There is another solenoid on the frame rail behind the passenger side front wheel. See if you’re getting power to the small trigger wire on the solenoid when you turn the key to start. If you are and the frame rail solenoid is good there is a fuseable link in the large wire going to or from (can’t remember which) the solenoid on the frame rail. I’ve had that fuseable link go bad.
