4.6 DOHC Question

That would be great if you would document the harness modifications! It will give the rest of us something to follow. I am thinking about relocating the runner control solenoid box to the firewall above the valve cover. That will let me position the engine about 1 1/2 “ farther back. I would be interested in seeing what you do for motor mounts. Are you going to utilize the stock mounts
Thanks
Scott

here is what I think the harness mod info is.. the green rows are remove (not many, rear o2 sensors, egr sensor, ...)
assumes u are using the normal 4r70w auto tranny too.
this has 96/97 (coil pack), and 98 on (coil on plug) (all DOHC only)
(this is a spreadsheet, but I can't find a way to upload that, so these are PDFs of the two sheet tabs)
let me know what you think, and any corrections if u try before I do.

This Thread just sort of died. Did anyone get their 4.6 running? Any problems with the ECM i.e. needed a tune, what must stay and what doesn't??? I'm planning on installing a 4.6 this spring in my 56 Panel and am researching the process to have everything I need ready for the Thaw
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Yes, I am planning on using as much of the Mark VIII harness as I can. Be aware that the transmission and the fuel pump run off the interior harness. When I pulled the engine and trans out of the Mark VII I only grabbed the engine harness and the section of the interior harness that connects to the ECM. Then I found out that I needed more than what I had. That cost me 6 hours at a junkyard pulling out an interior harness.

Good to know if I decide on using the whole harness. Are you having your ECM flashed (tuned) or are you going to try to run it as is?
I'm still not sure what the advantage/disadvantage is of removing all the pollution control stuff?
I'd like to run the Trans, cruise control, turn signals, wipers etc off the original wiring as well as the cooling Fans and A/C.
Not sure if I'm going to try the ABS, power seats, power windows or fuel pump (not sure what to do about the fuel pump). Any suggestions???
Thanks for the help so far

I think you will need to flash the ECM at a minimum to get rid of the security stuff. I am eliminating the rear O2 sensors and EGR. I am planning on using the fan, AC and cruise control from the existing harness. The lighting, windows etc I will probably just use the hot from the fuse box. My understanding is the fuel pump has 2 speeds. I will be building a custom tank and utilizing the stock fuel pump. A buddy of mine is using an aftermarket harness and it requires that you use the stock pump. What year is your engine?

I have a truck with a '94 Mark VIII in it. I used the stock wiring. The best way to start is with a large wiring diagram like this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/1994-Lincoln-Mark-VIII-Foldout-Wiring-Diagram-94-Mark-8-Electrical-Schematic-/360398363860?pt=Motors_Manuals_Literature&hash=item53e96a9cd4&vxp=mtr
I'll have to admit I was very intimidated when I first started. I just studied everything that needed to be wired for the engine and Trans and eliminated everything else. It started the first time and sounds great. I've since started a complete build on the truck so I've actually never driven it yet. Here's my thread, there may be something useful on there. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...its-alive.html
You can have your PCM reprogrammed to eliminate PATS. I also learned a lot on modularfords.com under 'MODULAR CONVERSIONS'. Very talented people on that forum as we'll. Good luck.

Shame on me. Just read your post, I saw part of your body work on previous posts but didn't realize you had installed the 4.6 DOHC. I usually pay more attention to the 53-56 stuff (cause I got em) but I've got to say GREAT JOB. That's one handsome labor of love
