i am new to this whole truck thing and i was looking to get a ext. cab F-150 flareside with a 5.4 and put the lightning supercharger on it. but i discovered they dont exist unless you get a Harley D. edietion. so my question is. who has a supercharged 4.6 and is it fast and what kind of time do you run.
Well, my 4.6L is stock and I don't get anywhere too fast, which is fine for me. I have a friend with a 2 valve 4.6L supercharged Saleen Mustang, I have seen his dyno sheets of 457 RWHP. The point is, you can go as fast as you can afford. He has over 10K in that engine and he expects it will make over 500 RWHP once he gets it tuned properly.
If you're going to go through all the expense of putting a blower on a 4.6 (none came from the factory w/a blower) why not go ahead and get the 5.4 and supercharge it, it won't be that much price difference used.
Also, I don't know if you meant there were no blown 5.4 trucks from the factory except the H.D. ed. and the Lightning, which is correct, or that there were no extended cab stepside 5.4s which is incorrect. I have a good friend w/an extended cab stepside '97 with the 5.4.
If it is really power you're after, get the 5.4, there's no replacement for displacement, and, yes there are some fast 4.6's, but if you did the same stuff to a 5.4 it will always have the edge.
Also, I've read somewhere that the mustang GT engines and the triton engines use different head bolt patterns and things, and thus the heads aren't interchangeable w/o machine work. The Cobra engines (not sure about the Saleen but I'd say it's the same) also have DOHC heads instead of SOCH which also makes a difference in power.
Well, sorry to ramble, but hope this helps you out. ---J.Bird
