Is there such thing as a 2nd gear sensor in this truck?

Hi all, my neighbor is getting a 1994 Ford F250 4x4 351 auto transmission and the transmission shifts hard from 1st to 2nd. Well, the owners are saying that there is a bad 2nd gear sensor in it. I have never heard of such a thing. Also if there is such a thing how much work is it to fix it up? Should he just get it and figure it out from there.

That would be an E4OD most likely.. I'm not aware of a second gear sensor, but it is totally electronic controlled so it might be a solenoid. He needs to check for DTC codes in any event, because any engine code can aslo cause problems with the E4OD.

Just about any code will cause the E4OD to go into limp mode, and that causes hard shifts among other things.

I was figuring it was the solenoid but he insists there is a sensor. I will have to wait for him to get it and get him to pull codes.

No no "sensor" such as owners claim, systems just not that smart.

And doubt its the solenoid, if it was the computer would/should sense that problem going into limp mode, all shifts be "harsh" because of it.

He has checked all that according to my niegbor. I think he should just get the truck here and then look into it. I don't know where he is getting his information that there is a Sensor.
