TSB 06-21-15 , new thermostat and crossover pipe
Has anyone had the experience described in this service bulletin?
06-21-15***MIL ON - DTC P1285 / P1299 - 5.4L 3V / 6.8L 3V - FALSE OVERHEAT
It has happened to my 06 F-350 V-10 gasser. my local dealer says it will take close to a thousand dollars to fix (replace thermostat and crossover pipe).
This seems ridiculous that I would have to pay 1000 bucks to fix what is a design flaw in the first place. The engine isn't even really overheating. Of course my extended warranty ran out recently and Ford won't give me any kind of price break.
Any suggestions?

Can you read the actual coolant temperature? Many of the folk here have invested in a Scangage 2 (or equivalent) reader.
This could be as simple as a thermostat replacement. Worst case is to look at the price of the components in the TSB (sponsors here have excellent prices) and do the job yourself.
These trucks are not that difficult to work on. You have excellent, free, technical support on this forum. There are many very knowledgable folk here who will give you any help that you might need.
