Might take a look at a newer 3 valve V10. Great engine & very reliable. Happy hunting

V10's seem great but I figure for the gas mileage and cost I might as well get a diesel... Kinda being stubborn about it but hey what can I say..

The 6.4 is a good engine with good maintains. Id say the first biggest issue with them is lack of maintenance. The second issue is fuel dilution and fuel mileage due to the DPF filter system. The DPF can be removed but is not emission complaint at that point, bu removing the DPF will increase the trucks reliability and fuel milage IMO.

I got an 08' 6.4 extended cab 8' bed, plain interior, black grill, manual tranny, basic work truck package with 50k miles for $24.5. It was a late 08 build, purchased new in December 08, one previous owner. It blue booked for around $30k. It was listed at $27.5, but my good friend sells cars and gave me a deal. Tell a car salesmen what you want, what your willing to pay, and find it for you. They make the most on used car sales, so they are usually willing to put the time in to find you something.

I wanted to add to this forum. Take a look at Bozard Ford website (bozardford.com). There is a used 08 Lariet 4x4 diesel with 58,200 miles listed for $35,350. I know that they will work with you on the price. One of the things I found out about this dealership is they list about 40 pictures of the vehicle, so you get a good idea of what the vehicle looks like. No I am not a salesman, I have nothing to do with the dealership. My experience with them is I bought my F250 Lariet there and I was very please with how that transaction went. If it fits your desires, and you might want to make the trip, or give them a look give them a look, that costs nothing.

Just to give my 2cents...i had a 96 7.3 psd and it was great...no issues....got and 05 6.0 psd with 60k miles it... i got an oasis report on it before i bought it...no turbo/head gasket/head stud issues....i ran the truck stock till 75k miles then put an sct sf3 programmer with a light custom tune on it and the truck ran great... the 6.0 isnt the headache some people make it out to be but i would shy away from the 03/04's....i have my 05 for sale now and am already having headaches with the 08 i bought with 45k on it... i currently have just under 50k on it and im gonna do a dpf delete and programmer once i get it back from the dealer...these newer emissions restrictions really hurt/restrict the truck....oh yea and just so u know... youll get much better fuel mileage out of the 6.0.... maybe i should really consider selling the 6.4 instead! (Im not really going to though)....but best of luck to u in your truck hunt!
