Hi New guy here. I'm getting rdy to move back into the boonies. My Civic isnt going to cut it up in the dirt and snow, so its time for a truck. I've always liked the Ford Trucks my dad has owned, and its pretty much the only thing I'll look at as far as trucks go.
I want a 2001+ F150 Crewcab Lariat 4x4, and today I found a truck that fit the bill; A 02 F150 Crew Lariat FX4; Fully loaded exept for the power rearwindow. Its Gold with the light tan interior. Its perfect... exept for the miles - 96,000 and they're asking $18,000.00. I feel like this is too much $$ for the miles, but I thought I'd ask the knowlagable people here first.
Thanks

I think you can do alot better than $18k for a 100k mile truck. Its easy to get caught up in the excitement of getting a new truck, just be patient. I cant tell you how many I turned away before I got mine, an 02 EC/SB king ranch 4x4. It may not be a supercrew, but I got it with 35k miles for just over $21k.
I feel like I paid too much for mine, but I dont see the value in saving $3000 if it put another 65k miles on it. Id advise you to take a little bit of time and look around. Good luck!
$18K is to high. For my 01 (bought 2 years ago) with 70000 miles on it I paid $15K. It also had aftermarket wheels and was spotless.
I know some guys will say don't get the 4.6L, but don't turn it down if you get the right deal. I wanted the 5.4L but settle with the 4.6L and have had nothing but good luck with mine (except some self inflicted injuries). As far as power goes, it will spin my 285's all day if I wanted it to and it still has plenty of power to pull a 4 place snowmobile trailer. There is also alot more aftermarket stuff available for the 4.6L as it is a mustang motor.
There are a couple different 4.6L as well and no way to tell at first glace which one except by the VIN of the truck (found this out when I took off the intake). You will tell the difference when you drive them though as far as power.

that price is not too bad, but its a byers market right now. talk or keep shopping a little. I bought a 2001 crew 4 x 4 leather 5.4 with 125,000 miles for $12k. saw quite a few for $15 at the time. dont let the miles scare you, but do discuss price.
not a bad price but shop around a little buddy.....lots of trucks out there to buy.....go for the 5.4 also....i have a 4.6 now and i wish i had a 5.4 every time i put my snowmobile trailer on the truck with the two sleds......
In 2004 I bought a 2001 F150 Supercrew Lariat 4x4 5.4L with 55,000 miles on it for $18K off of Ebay from a dealership in Florida. The truck was in perfect condition and it only cost me $500 to have it shipped to my house.
My partner got a 2000 Excursion with a 7.3L Diesel with all the banks stuff on it with only 20,000 miles for 21,000 bucks. Its kinda apples to oranges comparison, but he got a lot more truck for nearly the same money. If thats the going price....you'll find another one.
Thanks for all the replys. I really appreciate it. The dealer is screwing with me on this one. They wont come down in price for the truck, but they said that they'll give me more $ for my trade-in; the 02 Civic. In which they arn't giving me enough anyways, $8500.00. I hate this stupid game.....
Sell the car yourself and find another dealer. Don't know where you're located but here in the nor'east, I've seen more for less on Autotrader.com. Been looking myself.
I think it's too high, seeing as if you went to trade in the same truck right now, they would probably offer you 11k. I was going to trade in my '03 for an '05. Mint with 28K, power everything plus extras and they offered me 16.5. You can find something better. They are a dime a dozen
Per Kelly Blue Book retail it goes for 20K and bit under 17K for private party, 18K buying off dealer sounds about right. I got mine for 23K last March for a loaded 02 Supercrew Lariat FX4 with 22K on it. With the crazy gas prices nowdays has deflated the used pickup values somewhat, so you might be able to get better deal elsewhere. Good luck.
