No, the heater is just coolant from the motor running into a small radiator in a plastic box with fans blowing the heat in the cab... Try unplugging your fuel bowl heater and try again. Im not sure if that would have made your truck die tho. Hopefully someone will chime in here with a picture and a little more knowledge.

Check the fuse number 22 under the hood. That usually blows cause of the fuel bowl heater and it is connected to the pcm which activates the wts light. It blows cause of the fuel bowl heater, but sounds like you get an intermittent wts light?? That almost sounds like a bad ground maybe.
Check things over good, put a new fuse in just to eliminate that while unplugging the fuel bowl heater, middle elec. connection on the drivers side of the fuel bowl.
Have you ever changed the cps? That causes dying and will restart sometimes but doesn't usually set a cel if I remember right. I'd change that next if you never have as they are a common problem with these trucks. Get one from ford or IH if you do, parts store ones are junk. 25 bucks or so for it. You need to have a spare anyway if its not it. They are that common for failure.

Thanks guy. I did replace the cps maybe 3 yrs ago. Are there any link to unpluging the fuel bowl heater? Will also look for a good pic of the location the # 22 fuse. This problem only started today never before. The windshield does leak only after a heavy down pour.
Again thanks for the tips

Just pull the wiring plug off, it may be stubborn but it will come. The fuse is in the distribution box under the hood on the drivers inner fender. Make sure to check what Rick said also, a leaky windshield has caused more than one pcm to get wet and caused problems. If yours is intermittent like I understand it to be, it could very well be something along these lines.

i ahve cleaned the pins on the PCM added a new ground strap to battery to fender. replaced a 25 amp fuse in the under hood box. Also replaced the CPS. truck fired up and has run for 30 min so far. Im not sure if I have fixed the problem? Is there a link which outlines what all the under hood fuse control?
Thanks for the input and helping me with my 7.3 Odometer reset @ 300ks will guess the engine to have 800 +ks and still kicking.

Replaced the CPS truck started fine drove 200 miles then today ( raining ) SEL came on while coasting truck lost power until depressing throttle. Then engine was back up to power. Did it a few times so Im going to have it scanned. Going to ask a stupid question bad fuel wouldnt cause this type of problem? Switched tanks only did it once.
