casting /parts #? AKA hey parts dummy

While attempting to figure out my hard starting problem I figured I'd throw out the parts/casting numbers that I can see on my engine. I figure that if I'm using the wrong dwell,timing, plugs etc, due to not knowing what I'm working on it might add to the issue.

Block C6ME-A
Intake C5TE-8(or 9 can't tell )425-F
Heads C4TE-D
Exhaust manifold C6TE 9480C
N3
As always any help/knowledge is greatly appreciated, I can just see that something as simple as the wrong plug would make a big difference in starting.

Casting numbers are foundry marks, are usually worthless for ID'ing anything, and cannot be cross referenced to Ford part numbers.

C6ME-A is a 1966 casting number related to FE & FT engines. When the block was finished, it could be any of these: FT 330 2V Medium Duty, FE 352/390/410/428.

Measure the stroke, that'll pin it down...some.

C6TE-9430-C is an ID engineering number, not a casting number. It cross references to: C4TZ-9430-B Rams Horn Exhaust Manifold (right/left is the same) for 1964/72 FT engines.

I suspect the heads and intake manifold (possibly the block as well), are also from an FT engine, prolly a 330 2V Medium Duty, which shares some parts with FE engines.

"Squire" Don: Profile sez 1964 F100.

Picked the engine out of a junk yard a couple of years ago in a bind to get the truck back on the road. Started it while it was sitting on the ground,it ran and I couldn't pass on the price. The only info I could get from the people in the yard was "it was a big old truck" that the engine came out of, so the years isn't known to me.It had the right bellhousing to mate to the T-98 in my 64 F-250 4x so I snatched it up. The stroke is just under 4 inches by a fraction, it has an 8 qt oil pan and the dip stick is on the passenger side. Being as the engine is in the truck I can't measure the snout of the crank to determine if it has an FT crank. I have no idea if someone used a FE short block with their old head, .intake, etc. Were the same spark plugs used in FT heads as FE's ?

check the stroke, might be able to get a little closer to what it is.

Here ya go - if I remember correctly
3.98" = 410 & 428
3.78" = 390, 406 & 427
3.50" = 330 (FT), 352, & 360
3.30" = 332

With a C6ME casting prefix, it cannot be a 332, 406 or a 427.

332: 1958/59 / 406: 1962/63 / 427 has a different casting number prefix.
