(sigh) You cannot go by this pic to compare what your bell housing or spacer plate looks like, you wanna know why?

This parts catalog pic dates back to 1968, notice the 2V manifold and carb spacer plate. So the pic is actually for a 429, since all 460's were 4V's.

Ford didn't offer a M/T or 4WD until 1983 for 460's. All prior 460's came with C6's.

Parts catalog pics are used by Ford parts guys to get basic part numbers and every spacer plate since day one has a basic part number of 7007 regardless of the engine size.

With FoMoCo, the group number shown in pics is the same as the basic part number, so: Every head gasket is 6051, every valve cover is 6582, every head is 6049, every V8 intake manifold is 9424 and etc.

You need to go to the text section, add the prefix and suffix to get the complete part number.

 

The diagram is a generic representation from the FoMoCo 1980/89 Light Truck Master Parts Catalog, its purpose is for identifying components and finding the associated numbers. One then goes into the Text Section to find the vehicle application and model to find the exact part requirement.

The diagram represents 4 different V8 engines, all of which are basically the same (from a parts-identification standpoint).

Point being, things being shaped differently doesn't matter. The plate fits between the block & flywheel and performs the functions I described above.

If the parts catalog pic included The Deuce and Lee Iacocca sitting in a bar drinking martinis, while Carroll Shelby reads a newspaper with the date of March 1, 1968 visible on it, do you suppose anyone would notice the date?

Prolly not!

Bottom Line is: You cannot go by parts catalog pics to compare what parts look like, especially mechanical parts. Body parts is a different story, at least thru 1970.

 

Along the 6-bolt valve cover thing... I hadn't counted the bolts, but the covers themselves don't look like any Wheezer block covers I've seen before... from what I've seen, 302 & 351W covers are much more squared. I don't remember any 289 covers.

The covers in the pic, well... only 6 bolts, but they're shaped kinda like 360/390 covers Kinda like a 460, too, I guess.

Point being, yes, I agree, one often can't use these pics to identify exactly what something looks like, these drawings are only generic representations.

The C8AZ-6766-A Oil Cap and the C8AZ-6767-A plastic elbow were intro'd in surprise! 1968, were also used on FE engines.

Long time ago, there was a Wheezer engine that could be bolted to a bicycle, a character named Wheezer in the Our Gang comedies, but I've never heard of a Ford Wheezer.

 

I don't have that, although I want to get the 80/89 car parts book to be able to look things up for my DD Tempo like I do the truck.

Go look at the transmission ID pictures, there's 1960s stuff there, too.

Who knows? Whoever scans this jazz will have to find a complete loose leaf paper parts catalog, who has one?

By the 1990's, most dealers were using microfiche. The dealer I was working at back then had only paper parts catalogs. The set-in-his-ways old phart cheapskate parts manager wouldn't buy a viewer.

So I bought one. Hell, we needed it cuz the paper catalogs didn't have some of the newer part numbers.

We already had the slides, but cheapskate remembered the viewer introduced in 1967, was a POS, the resolution was terrible (most were pitched into the trash). So he assumed the new viewer was too.

I used to rag on the guy, asked him...when you open your wallet, do moths fly out? He had a '40 Ford Deluxe Coupe, bought it in 1955, it needed a new gas filler tube grommet.

He refused to buy a repro, a NOS original was about 10 bucks. He wanted an NOS original, for its original price, which was around 75 cents!! He was sooo cheap, he squeeked!

 

Guess I will update this thread since it sort of turned out to be a build/restore thread for this truck...
Got the rest of my lights wired up last night.
-25 running/clearance (all LED except the 4 stock ones in the nose of the truck)
-6 tail lights (All LED with integrated reverse lights)
-4 fwd facing flood lights on headache rack (might add 2 more on the bumper if I can find a push bar)
-2 rear facing flood lights on headache rack
-2 stock head lights







I have done quite a bit to the interior and the paint since my last updates too. Will get some better pictures up when I get some light pictures.

 

That looks real nice. I know you had some headaches along the way and I feel your pain there. Took me almost 2 years to get my truck on the road.

Thanks! I got the truck not running last fall and it was on the road by late spring. Not bad, but it also didnt need alot just to get it driveable. Now, I am just "nickel and diming" it to get it back to a "nice truck" status.

Since my last postings, I have really cleaned up the interior and replaced a bunch of panels as well as spent some time re-working the existing paint to bring it back to life.

Will get some pics of that progress soon.

 

Got my new headliner put in this weekend. Turned out pretty good considering I am not much of an upholsterer! Cleaned up all the trim around the headliner. Interior is coming together nicely. (Trying to keep the stock appearance)



Here's a shot of the new LMC door panels I installed a few weeks ago. Reused the original chrome trim and arm rest. (Fyi, this is the color "saddle" and it is darker than stock) at the same time, I replaced all the window seals and anti rattles. Doors close like a solid vault door now!



Here's a couple shots of the interior. Still to replace is the rear piller panels, recover the seat, and replace the vinyl floor with carpet.









And here's a close up of the rear seatbelt panels I need to figure out that to do with. Its hard to believe that most of the interior of this truck looked like this when I got it! That's what almost 30 years of sitting outside on the farm will do!

 

Diggin' up an old thread.... the project sort of took a back seat to one of the longest winters I remember in years. Glad that's over.

Truck ran great all winter and was my daily driver the whole time.

Got back to working on it this week now that the snow is gone and I can drive my car again:
I was pleasantly surprised on the good condition of my floor boards after pulling out the old worn vinyl floor.


Then installed the new LMC carpet. Turned out great!

 

Everything looks great! I was hoping to get more done on my truck over the winter but I think I did enough. At least my wallet thought so. Keep it up!
