I got my sd starter today. I didnt have time to put it on befor work though. I found out bout the two and three mount starters. The two is a gear reduction that only uses two gears. The three bolt sd starter is just the same as our stock ones and it uses more than just two gears to make it turn. It sounds like the same thing that they told you. He said one was called planatary gear reduction and i cant remember wat he called the other one. I went with the two bolt starter For a 2002. It is alot shorter than the stock one. I do have a 5 speed so hopefully i dont have any trouble with the bolts coming losse. I paid 235 at a alt and starter store in a town close to me.

DB Electrical - cheap Chinese starters made to look like Densos.

Mean Green is a Pennsylvania-based company that makes starters and alternators. They have a good rep.

Just because a store gives you a lifetime warranty on a starter, don't forget to ask where it's made. Chinese components don't last. You'll be back getting a new one soon enough. Pay now with your wallet or pay later with the hassle.

I think my truck deserves a quality part. I put in a true Denso starter that is still going strong.

End replace starter. Thank to PO for had lifetime warranty.

I notice they give me paper.

It say
Mitsubishi M8T50072 Planetary Gear Reduction model was the original for this application. Mine is 2000 F350 superduty.

But they say The Nippondenso model 228000-8420 might have been used as a replacement alternative to the Mitsubishi.

I notice pictures show that nippondenso only had 2 bolts while Mitsubishi had 3 bolts.

But nippondenso had cast for other bolt. You could drill that cast in bolt hole so it will be 3 bolts. I wonder why they didn't drill that one.

I love the sound of my new sd starter. I finaly got it on. I just took a pocket knife to open up the lil eye terminal more. I prob payed more for it than other places but that was there price and it is a new starter. My old starter was a least 4 yrs so my one should last a lot longer than that. This truck is not my daily driver so i think it will last.

My original lasted a LONG time and in 07 or so I got a remanned Worldwide from Advance Auto because I was flipping broke. It had a lifetime warranty and thank goodness because I've warranted it like 4 times. It slowing down big time again is why I started this thread. I went to AAP to see if they would let me do an exchange of sorts for a new SD 2 bolter. The guy was going to give me one but opened the box and it was a straight shaft 3 bolt unit. Sooo... Is there such a thing as a high torque straight shaft or is it the same thing as OBS OE? Sure seems like it spins way faster than anything I've ever had and it has a lifetime warranty too.
