Ranger with diesel conversion

Kubota Conversion
Don't rule out the Kubota conversion. There are thousands of Kubota V2203 engines being pulled from Carrier refer units for California emissions being sold for cheap! They're pretty much the same as the units put in skidsteers and other equipment, but the Carrier units have larger main bearings for longer service life. They are only around 50hp (depending on governed rpm), but they take a turbo well.
They have a standard throttled governor. You put in a stiffer spring to overpower the flyweights and run higher RPM. The only slight oddity is that they don't have the complicated balanced spring setup that engines like Cummins have, so when you get into high RPM you can feel the governor pushing back at your foot. Peak torque is around 1600RPM, and they'll spin over 3000RPM, but seem happiest around 2400RPM.
One of the guys who swapped one into a Ranged used to have a Cherokee with a Mercedes OM617. He says the Kubota's low end power/torque is far superior to the Mercedes diesel.
I'm in the middle of swapping a V2203DI into my daily driver '99 Jeep Wrangler. My build has a TD04 liquid cooled turbo from a WRX, intercooler, and methanol/water injection. I'll post results on my build thread once it's on the road in a week or two.
I opted to go with a custom adapter plate to replace the flywheel housing, to make the package as compact as possible, and reuse all of the stock parts that I could. A machinist friend made the adapters to use the stock Jeep AX-15 transmission, flywheel, and starter.
