pressure gauge for the HPOP system

I'm sure this topic is covered somewhere sometime ago. I need to attach (temp, or perm) a pressure gauge to monitore the oil prssure. What gauge do I use (pressure, thread) and where do I tap in? Thanks. Erwin

You can take a plug out of the head in the valley and get threads matching it. I don't know what they are off hand. Need at least a 4000psi gauge.

They sell the gauge and hose for $80 shipped. Tell them I sent ya.
Or you can make one up if you want.

You can also use a scan guage to monitor pressure.
Let me know if you want more info on that.

JIM,
Thanks for the information. I’ll look into ordering one. I do have AE and was able to monitor the oil pressure. The reason that I was thinking about getting a mechanical gauge is that I need to do a final test to rule out the HPOP system as the possible cause for my poor running condition. The engine will start every time. However, it will cut out in a sudden, sometimes very often, sometimes just fine. I’ve been dealing with this condition for many months now. My oil pressure and rpm plot pretty much shows that most of the time the rpm drops before the oil pressure does. I want to run the engine with the icp sensor off, thus have a constant oil pressure. I already did that and the engine behaves the same. I just want to be able to see that the pressure is constant. Thanks. Erwin

Kind of sounds like the CPS. Have you changed that out by chance?

That's the first thing I did. I now have 3 spares, the engine behaves the same with any of the three. Continuity test on all three wires to the ECU plug all pass. I still hope that it's the CPS itself or the wiring. But, I ran out of thing to blame it for!

The only thing that I'm not absolutely sure about the CPS is its clearance to the cam wheel. I read somewhere that 94, 95 engine have different thickness in the casting than other years and requires some kind of shim kit. It claims that it's thicker, thus the bigger clearance causing it to be out of tolorance. But why adding a shim or two can help, that I do not understand. Erwin

There are so many things that can cause this, I'd check after sensors before going for the Hpop.
Could just be the IPR, or something as simple as a dirty fuel bowl.

If your referring to oil pressure on the dash, that gauge is basically monitoring the LPOP from the reservoir of the HPOP.
