independent rear suspension

Any ideas or comments on the feasibility or desirability of a rear suspension swap using the Ford 8.8 independent unit, subframe and all, from a mid 80's to mid 90's T-bird, Cougar, or MrkVII? With disc brakes and posi. I saw a mid 60's Chevy pick up in a magazine with just such a swap, according to the description, but no detail photos. Would be better in a Ford, of course.
