1976 Highboy crossover steering conversion

I've been searching on the forums and cant really find a good write up or thread with good pictures of a crossover steering conversion. Im looking to do one on my truck to get rid of the bump steer and other stuff. If anyone can help me out with finding a good write up Please let me know. Thanks.

I did a crossover setup and somewhere on here is pictures. It really depends how high your truck sits and what front axle you have. You should post some pics of what you have to work with. I know I'm really pleased with the way the crossover works with a lift and big tires.

Dana 44 front axle, Truck has 4inch rear blocks with a 4 inch perch drop lift in the front and a 3 inch body lift.

You would need to entirely do away with your current power assist push/pull style steering setup and go with a 78/79 integral p/s box for a conversion to cross over steering.

Personally, i don't like steering blocks, but, a steering block would lessen the angle on your control valve, and therefore help alleviate the bump steer.

it mounts under your steering arm to raise it's height, giving you a better, more stock like angle on your drag link/control valve.

Dana 44 3 Inch Steering Block

I just noticed you have lift blocks under your front springs, even though they're only 1" that's a big no-no up front.

If you have the money and the skills I would convert tote 78/79 power steering. That's what I did and it was worth it. I also did a Hp kingpin D60 while I was there so it made the crossover easier. I don't thunk you have near enough clearance to to run crossover anyway since it look like you basically have stock springs with a block. I ran into the problem with not having enough clearence for the drop pitman arm and crossover and had to order new leafs with a bigger arch. I can show you a pic if you want. Other than that a block for under the steering arm is the cheapest and easiest way to help the problem you have.

Steering arm block on Dana44

Here is what it took to keep my steering working smooth with a 6" Skyjacker suspension lift. 1. Drop pitman arm
2. Drop drag link
3. Block to raise steering arm
4. Dual steering stabilizer
I know this is not the same as yours but you would use the same steering arm block. My truck is a 77.5 so it is the same as 78-79.

That steering block with longer bolts is a bad idea. The extra leverage on those longer bolts tends to always back them off loose. I know I've done it.

I used a 2wd box from a 73-79 that was mounted inside the frame on a welded on 3/8 plate with the 3 holes needed to mount. I also drilled out for 1/2" bolts to mount as I snapped 7/16 grade 8's with 44" tires. The 2wd box has good turning radius as well.
I run mine with hydro assist and crossover to a hp d60 as well though. You could get flat top drilled knuckles or do a inverted T setup with draglink to tie rod near pass side..
