Removing a 7.3 diesel from a 1990 E350

Hi can anybody tell me if there is enough room to lift and remove the 7.3 from a 1990 E350 van out the front looks like a tight fit if I hook up the cherry picker and chain between the top of engine and cowl any ideas or help on this? Thanks Bob

Yes there is plenty of room to remove the 7.3 from the front. I recently pulled one from a 91 E350. I removed the transmission, fuel filter housing, and of course radiator and everything infront of the engine. I also think I removed the altenator and ac compressor to free up some more room. I used a winch truck and tank bars, but a cherry picker would work as well. Came out alot easier than it looks.

Turned out to be a complete b*tch aside from removing the obvious and suggested stuff by other members who say they've done it, had to unbolt oil pan, unbolt oil pump and pick up tube thru the 5 inch gap between the oil pan and the engine block while i had it hoisted. The lack of room between the engine and underside of dash is so small (even after making the shortest chain possible) it's impossible to "just pull it out" had to jack up the front end to change to angle of entry of the hoist, use a couple long breaker bars to pry the thing towards coming out inch by inch while the hoist was as high as it could go with out lifting the van up by the underside of the dash. frustrating as f*#k by it self let alone the complete lack of available info and useful advice anywhere on the net. getting the new one in was cake no oil pan removal still had to hoist it up as high as possibly with out hitting the underside of the dash and pry the front end up and over the only part of the front end that cant be removed.
