I got my last C6 rebuild kit from Napa, and the band from Ford. Get them for a 70s truck, and you can run Mercon/Dexron fluid rather than the type F.
Rebuilt torque converter, and new flex plate are cheap.
I have gotten transmission kits from various CSK stores (now O'Reilly's) and been happy with them.
You will need a shim from Ford to set your overall tolerance. You won't know this until you assemble it. Also, get the Haynes manual on Ford automatic transmissions. It;s a big help if you've never been into one before.

That may be true, but at least twenty years of them have been ruled out since it's an FE bell.
Pretty much any dipstick/tube combo from any FE-bell C6 should work, just make sure to keep the dipstick and tube together as there are different lengths.
