i agree. the times i have got on it its been nice. i like the 6.2 myself. the torque is not like the diesels but the 6.2 is sufficient for my needs. i originally wanted a diesel but had a hard time choking down the 48+ price tag...

It's been pretty informative. I even went out and spent 2 hours looking at and driving new ones.

Perhaps the title "Does anybody regret buying the 6.2?" made a soapbox more attractive. Schadenfreude?

Personally, I like the opportunities we have as owners to choose what engine we want. One day we may not be so lucky.

I'm really warming up to the Raptor. The sales pitch to the wife will be one for all time.

The 6.2 seems to have a lot more bark than bite IMO.

I'll agree with this statement, The 6.2L is the engine Ford should have put in their trucks 10 years ago. But today the 6.2L is an ''Old Tech'' engine which isn't a bad thing, lots of people perfer to be better safe than sorry. The 6.2L draws most of its power from its shear size, while engines like the 5.0L and Ecoboost rely more on technology to get their power. The 6.2L is a great engine for those who are not willing to accept a smaller displacement V8 or a Twin Turbo V6 as their main sorce of power. I do beleive that the 6.2L would be selling much better though if it weren't made to be so exclusive.

Both the 5.0L and Ecoboost will run a good race with a 6.2L.

However if the 6.2L was built with all the technology the Ecoboost packs then it would have no issues out performing all other engines Ford offers.

has anyone done any dyno runs of the 6.2 and 5.0 and EB for comparison?

I don't trust anything Ford or Magazines put out. They are each out to sell something. Would be nice to see what kind of #'s each motor is putting to the rear wheels in the real world. Especially if done on the same dyno by the same operator on the same day...without any shenanigans played to influence #'s.

This thread has some great comments and info. I'm more and more leaning towards the 6.2

^^Better yet, I'd like to see an Ecoboost and 6.2 truck chained up together. I've been watching YouTube for this and haven't seen it yet. I've offered a couple of people a chance to hook up to my 1 ton but I haven't had any takers yet either

Unfortunately those comparisons prove nothing except who has better tires/suspension.

http://5startuning.com has dyno charts of the 6.2 and 5.0, but none of the EB. Not sure if they have any plans for it.

I'd love to drag race an Eco boost. Even with my trucks added weight (it's 8k lbs), I think the 4.30's will give it a run for its money.

I'm waiting for the warranty to expire on my wife's Outlook and then I'll be back at my dealer for a new Explorer (hoping 3rd time's a charm, first 2 Explorers were both POS vehicles) with the EB in it... I love the 6.2 and since I already have one, there's nothing else I'd enjoy other than another Ford with a different motor sitting in my driveway.

Great link, 640. I'm in rep jail for you but that link definitely warrants some good rep.

Interesting how much output the EcoBoost has at lower rpm's compared to the 6.2. I wonder if those tests were all done on regular gas or if the EcoBoost might have been run on premium. I also wonder how different they would be in the real world, pulling a heavy load up a mountain or something...

Surprised how fast the EB dies off after 5000rpm. With turbo's it should just keep building power.

I'm guessing that they back off the boost to avoid blowing the engine up with the combination of monstrous torque and high rpm's in a truck application. If it were tuned for, say, a Mustang, I would guess they'd let it run at higher rpm's. With the big torque at low rpm's, it's clearly tuned to be a truck motor. Likewise, aftermarket tuners might increase the power bigtime at higher rpm's as well. Only other problem I might see is fuel injector capacity in those conditions.

Think of a 300 inch six at anything over 4000 rpms....that old 1 barrel carb would have the power gone at those rpm's. (I had one in a '78 F100.)
