Garrett TV7512 AR 0.96

A buddy of mine gave me a rebuilt Garrett TV7512 AR 0.96 in the box... it was rebuilt by reliabilt in april 2003.... I was wondering if this is a good turbo to use or if I should just get rid of it... anyone have an application for it?

That sounds like the one that fits 9 liter Detroit 6V92 if I remember correctly.

Looking it up real quick you are correct. I see a number of references to the 6v92 motor.
I couldn't find a compressor map but being used on a diesel it may perform decent.
Only issue being is he exhaust housing is big. It's made for a 550 CID engine. It will spool slow but once it starts I bet it will hit hard and make plenty of air for you.
If you tow with your truck a lot I'd stay away from it. If you wanted to build a compound turbo setup then it would be a fast responder for sure but only give you an extra 20lb/min of air I'm guessing. Stock turbo is about 60lb/min and that one from comparison to others is around 80? Just a guess.

As a single it would be slow to respond. As a compound along with stock turbo I'd say great for towing and fun.

That turbo on a 6v92 is made to work in conjunction with a blower. I am not sure how that figures into it. I used to work on them is how i knew that model #.

May put out more then 80lb/min of air then. I had assumed it was a stand alone turbo on that engine. It has a smaller wheel then the s400 series turbos so I was trying to guess at airflow.
Either way. Too large for a single on a daily driver/ tow vehicle.

well, I dont think I am gonna use it... I looked them up online and they are going for around 1200 bucks... I'll make someone a really great deal if they want it... I can provide pictures on request... would 600 be too much to ask? maybe trade for chip, a full set of gauges or something else?

There is a forum on yahoo called rtsbusnuts that has a lot of members that convert that particular transit bus into some really nice motorhomes. you may have luck there selling it. They are a bunch of good guys. I sold a member a motor out of one a long time ago. A lot of those guys have the motor that goes with that turbo.

I was thinking that was around $500 for that turbo but you may be able to google it to get a better answer.
