Rust Prevention at Hub Flange/Brake Drum

I spent a lot of time cleaning the rust off the flange to make sure the new brake drum will fit flat and I'd like to do something to keep it and the shinny new brake drum from rusting. One site talked about using anti-seize but that seems a bit extreme and it might spill out to the brake drum/ brake shoe.

What have you guys done or do you just not worry about it?

A friend told me about a spray made to keep table saws from rusting. He thought it would work for what I want but I don't know how long it will last. It is called Glidecote (not Glidecoat).

Thanks

I thought about that but I know next to nothing about paint and have three concerns about painting.

1) What kind of paint. Is just primer enough?

2) I'll get uneven coating and cause runout.

3) The paint will act like glue under the high clamping force of the lug nuts being tightened and it will be difficult to remove wheels and the drum.

I would clean off any residue on the parts, then hit them with some black primer. Let dry then use anti-seize.

Good paint, prepped for and applied correctly, might work. Just primer will not. And yes, it has the potential for sticking.

That's why people are recommending anti-seize. Keeping two pieces of metal from sticking together from corrosion is what it's designed for. If you're concerned about it getting thrown where it's not wanted, then just use a really thin coat (it doesn't take much).
